Our Vineyards
9. June 2025
In the heart of Carnuntum, where the Romans first planted vines, we blend tradition with modern craftsmanship. Höflein, our hometown, is defined by quartz-rich terrace gravel, once part of the Danube riverbed, and a loess-loam layer that varies depending on the slope. This geological diversity, combined with the significant temperature fluctuations between day and night, influenced by the nearby Danube and the Maria Ellender forest, gives our wines their remarkable freshness and tension.
ÖTW 1. Lage Aubühl
Located west of Höflein, Ried Aubühl is classified as Erste Lage by the ÖTW (Österr. Traditionsweingüter). This flat ridge faces both northeast and partly south, producing wines that age beautifully. Despite the warm soils and Pannonian climate, the wines maintain their freshness and spiciness, thanks to the cooling influence of the nearby forest. The limestone-rich soils contribute to the elegance of the red wines. Our finest Blaufränkisch and some Chardonnay come from this site.
Ried Bühl
To the south of Höflein, Ried Bühl is known for its loess soils rich in limestone. The vineyards here benefit from optimal sun exposure and cooling winds. These conditions give the wines a refined structure, precise fruity intensity, and balanced elegance.
Ried Gaisbühl
Southeast of Höflein lies Ried Gaisbühl, with deep, calcareous soils. The vineyards, primarily northeast-facing, thrive in the loamy-silty black earth formed from loess – limestone rock dust deposited during the Ice Age.
