Höflein 2021
Region
Our village wine Höflein is a balanced blend of Zweigelt and Blaufränkisch – 50% of each. The Zweigelt comes from younger vines in the Bühl vineyard, located just south of Höflein, with northeast- and partially south-facing slopes. Its calcareous loess soils are loamy, sandy, and well-draining. The Blaufränkisch is sourced from the Auweg vineyard to the west of the village, with a small portion from Scheibner. Auweg features silty, sandy, and gravelly sediments deposited by the ancient Pannonian Sea – a diverse terroir contributing complexity and finesse to the final cuvée.

Harvest & Vinification
Hand-harvested and carefully destemmed, the grapes undergo spontaneous fermentation in open-top vats. The Zweigelt matures in small used barrels, while the Blaufränkisch is aged in 500-litre oak barrels. Each vineyard parcel is vinified separately – typically 5 to 10 individual batches per vintage – with 18 to 20 days of maceration to extract depth and structure. This site-specific approach allows us to shape a cuvée that captures the soul of Höflein. After 18 months of ageing, the wine is bottled – a true expression of origin and balance.
Vintage 2021
2021 was a near-perfect year. Although the spring brought little winter moisture and an early budburst, summer unfolded under ideal conditions. Rainfall and sunshine alternated in perfect rhythm, enabling excellent vine balance. Harvest began in early September, with all varieties showing ideal physiological ripeness and fresh acidity. Without doubt, 2021 ranks among the great vintages – producing wines of exceptional elegance, clarity, and longevity.
