Pinot Noir

2023

Region

Our Pinot Noir is sourced from the Steinriegel and Kirchtal vineyards. Steinriegel features gravel soils interspersed with loess and benefits from southeast, south, and southwest-facing slopes. The soil is composed of calcareous sediments from the ancient Pannonian Sea. Kirchtal, a sub-vineyard of Bühl located south of Höflein, is characterised by loess soils rich in limestone, formed from Ice Age rock dust. The vineyards face south and southwest, with deep, loamy-sandy soils that retain water well – ideal for Pinot Noir cultivation.

Harvest & Vinification

This Pinot Noir is sourced from the Steinriegel and Kirchtal vineyards. Steinriegel, with its gravelly soils and loess inclusions, lies on southeast, south, and southwest-facing slopes and is underlain by calcareous sediments from the ancient Pannonian Sea. Kirchtal, a sub-vineyard of Bühl south of Höflein, is marked by loess-rich soils formed from Ice Age rock dust. Its deep, loamy-sandy structure retains moisture exceptionally well – ideal for cultivating Pinot Noir. Both sites deliver fruit with finesse, depth, and purity.

Vintage 2023

2023 was a well-balanced vintage with near-ideal conditions. A moist winter and moderate spring rainfall ensured healthy budbreak. The hot summer was moderated by timely rains and a cooler July, providing excellent ripening while preserving acidity. Harvest began in mid-September. While whites and rosés display vivid freshness, the reds are equally marked by vibrant acidity and exceptional ripeness. A harmonious, high-quality year.
