Monopol weiß 2021
Region
Our Chardonnay grapes for Monopol Weiß come from the Gaisbühl and Aubühl vineyards. Gaisbühl, located southeast of Höflein, features deep, calcareous soils, while Aubühl, oriented to the northeast and south, benefits from the cooling influence of nearby forests, which impart freshness and spiciness to the wine. The warm, limestone-rich soils of both sites add depth and subtle salinity to the flavor. The wine matures in French oak, offering elegant accessibility and excellent aging potential. The Monopol vineyard, our very first own vineyard, was planted in 2011, and we have a special connection to it.

Harvest & Vinification
With the name Monopol, we aim to express the uniqueness of this wine. It is not from a single vineyard but rather from terroirs offering perfect conditions for the highest quality. The grapes are hand-harvested, gently pressed, and spontaneously fermented. The wine matures for two years in French oak barrels – one-third in new wood, the rest in used barrels. After one year of bottle aging, it is finally bottled. Monopol Weiß is only produced in exceptional years.
Vintage 2021
2021 was a vintage of harmony and perfection. Although the spring started with mixed conditions – low winter moisture, dryness, and an early budburst – from early summer onward, rainfall and sunshine came at ideal intervals, providing the vines with exceptional balance. Harvest began in early September under perfect conditions. All varieties impressed with perfect acidity structure and complete physiological ripeness. 2021 is undoubtedly one of the great vintages – an exceptional year producing wines of remarkable elegance and finesse.
