Eiswein 2016
Region
The grapes for this Eiswein come from the crescent-shaped Scheibner vineyard, which faces northeast. The vines grow on sandy, gravelly clay soils with a highly calcareous subsoil. The soil in the root zone has a high level of active calcium, which aids in the vines' nutrient uptake. The constant wind in the vineyard helps the berries dry quickly after rainfall, ensuring optimal growing conditions for Welschriesling.

Harvest & Vinification
On December 31, 2016, just before the turn of the year, the moment we had been waiting for finally arrived. The temperatures had to fall below freezing the day before the harvest to perfectly freeze the grapes. On this special day, the whole family came together to bring in the harvest—an effort that was well worth it. The thought that, years from now, our children will enjoy this Eiswein in their 30s or 40s brings us immense joy and serves as our greatest motivation to create this exceptional product.
Vintage 2016
December 31, 2016, marked the harvest of one of the last great Eiswein vintages. With perfect conditions of -12°C, the timing was ideal: early enough to retain freshness and acidity, but late enough to develop full flavor concentration. The dry autumn that preceded the harvest played a crucial role by preventing the overdevelopment of noble rot and providing the ideal conditions for this rare wine. The result is an Eiswein with impressive acidity, depth, and structure—truly a masterpiece of the 2016 vintage, with remarkable aging potential.
